Background
About Amy Robbins
I'm Amy, an aspiring publisher & former English teacher with a natural aptitude for editing & a deep-seated desire to work creatively. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by creative projects—whether drawing, crafting stories or immersing myself in imaginative literature, so I’m also interested in design, publicity, & marketing roles. My love for reading spans memoirs, SFF, literary fiction, & romance, but I have a special place in my heart for manga, comics, & graphic novels. I have a diverse appreciation for all literature which makes me a strong fit for any company. I recently graduated from NYU’s School of Professional Studies Summer Publishing Institute, where I fully immersed myself in the fast-paced & dynamic world of publishing. This intensive program solidified my passion for the industry & reinforced my decision to transition from teaching to a career in publishing. At SPI, I gained a comprehensive skill set that spans traditional & digital publishing, including designing galleys, creating promotional materials, developing P & Ls, & mastering SEO & metadata analysis for audience development & brand growth. During the program, I explored every aspect of the publication process—from manuscript submission & editing to production, marketing, sales, & distribution. I collaborated across departments to launch a hypothetical imprint & media brand, contributing to everything from logo design & cover creation to developing strategic marketing campaigns. The hands-on experience in both book publishing & digital media has equipped me with the practical skills & confidence to excel in the publishing industry. As a former English, Dyslexia, & ESL teacher, I deeply understand the transformative power of representation for my students, both in print & media. My goal has always been for my students to empower themselves by overcoming self-doubt, realizing their potential, & shaping their futures. In the classroom, I cultivated a nurturing environment where every voice was heard, embraced, & celebrated—a principle I’m eager to bring into the publishing world. In my teaching, I connected with students by ensuring they felt seen, loved, & important, fostering an environment conducive to reflection, growth, & risk-taking. I took pride in turning challenging lessons into triumphs, creating memorable experiences that resonate with learners long after they leave the classroom. These same skills—empathy, creativity, & the ability to communicate complex ideas—are essential in publishing, where the goal is to reach & resonate with diverse audiences.
