About Amy Smith

As a lifelong advocate of the IDD/disability community, I am a driven, goal-oriented professional; looking to work in a diverse environment where I can utilize my skills. I have a Bachelor of Sciences from MTSU in Human Development. I have been an advocate for special needs for over 30+ years. In 2016 I attended and graduated from Partners in Policymaking program, where I expanded my skills in advocacy. I also have attended the Wrightslaw training course where I learned how to legally research and locate specific laws applying to the special needs community. I advocate for those with rare genetic diagnoses and the underserved population and for the rights of caregivers to be able to be the in-home support for their loved ones. My varying career paths included keeping all contracts up to date and providing exceptional customer service, and keeping documentation current as the point person for creating and writing policies, procedures, and training new employees. I have developed a solid program management skill set. Understanding different businesses, and my experiences as a VOCA grant manager and over 15 years as a subject matter expert in respective industries have allowed me to see the big picture and utilize my skills in numerous ways.
