About Amy Sydney

I am an experienced employment lawyer with a passion for helping individuals to understand and enforce their workplace rights and for assisting organisations to navigate the complexities of managing people in line with their commercial and operational goals. I began my legal career almost 20 years ago as a Law Clerk at Meyer Vandenberg – now MV Law. I worked with the firm for more than three years, advising on commercial issues including intellectual property, governance, and business acquisition and sales, before taking a legal counsel role in a family-operated hospitality group. In my legal counsel role, I gained significant insight into the relationship between business operations and the practical application of the law. I went on to hold government roles as a Senior Legal Policy Officer and then as a Principal Solicitor for the ACT Government Solicitor (ultimately specialising in employment law) before rejoining the MV Law team in September 2023. As a Special Counsel at MV Law, I now advise individuals from a variety of industries and organisations of different sizes on all aspects of employment law, industrial relations and workplace safety. I enjoy helping employees, independent contractors, managers and business leaders navigate a wide range of workplace issues, from the contractor/employee distinction to the National Employment Standards, awards and enterprise agreements through to investigations and Fair Work Proceedings - such as unfair dismissal and bullying and harassment claims. My clients and colleagues have said I am personable, responsive, authentic and diligent – feedback that I have been humbled to receive and am passionate about maintaining.
