About Ana Grace Cabrera

25 years of experience as Gender Adviser in the United Nations. Ana Grace is currently the Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action Area Coordinator for UN Women Guatemala. She has promoted the strengthening of women’s machinery and the implementation of the National Policy for the Integral Development of Women with emphasis on the eradication of violence, discrimination and racism against women, their economic empowerment and equal participation. She contributed to building up the Guatemalan Legislative Agenda for the Advancement of Women; the 1325 National Action Plan,the SG Campaign End Violence against Women, and national and international exchanges on women’s rights, peace, and feminisms. Her UN High Commissioner for Refugees experience, has been fundamental in supporting truth, justice, and reparation of conflict related sexual crimes against women. In Angola, she was responsible for community development during the post-conflict return and reintegration of the refugee population, and of the Protection of the Internally Displaced Programme. She headed the Angolan consultation with refugee and displaced women and partners on the Agenda for Protection, which contributed to the Five Commitments to Refugee Women. As Adviser on the Social Aspects of Protection, she supported Syria and Jordan's response to the Iraq crisis, focusing on the protection of women and girls. In Geneva, she was the team leader for the HCR Guidelines on the Prevention and Response to Sexual against Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced. With local, national and regional teams, she facilitated consultations in 42 countries, to analyze the global advances and gaps in addressing SGBV and built-up mechanisms to improve protection. Refugee and returnee women of the world are her most important professors. She has studied feminist gender, industrial psychology, human rights, literature, computer sciences and linguistics. She is a feminist poet and writes short women stories.
