About Ana Pgc Marques

Ana Marques graduated from high school as a Chemistry Technician in 1996 and finished her BSc in Environmental Engineering in 2001.She has been involved in research activities since she was a researcher at Technical University of Denmark. At the conclusion of her BSc she worked in Environmental and Quality Management systems consultancy (2001- 2002),which helped her strengthen her links with the industry. She was awarded a FCT PhD grant to pursue her PhD in Biotechnology–Environmental Sciences and Engineering(2002-2007).The work was developed integrated in CBQF/ESB/UCP in the Environmental Biotechnology research group. Afterwards she started her first post-doctoral grant at CBQF-UCP(2007-2013). In 2010 she participated with a team of managers in the program CoHiTec by COTECand developed business plans for 2 awarded projects in the areas of agriculture and soil remediation and subsequently her project team was awarded with the BES Innovation prize in the area of Biotechnology. From 2013 to 2014 she had an Invited Scientist grant and was able to work on her 1st project as the Leader researcher (PI). At the project conclusion, AM started her second post-doctoral grant at LEBAPE-FEUP (2015-2018). More recently (2018) she had a contract (DL 57/2016) as a researcher at CBQF -accomplishing her 2nd project as a PI from 2018-2022. Through this pathway she was a team member and leader of several funded projects, which gave her an excelent insight on project writing, establishment, development and report. In parallel, AM has also been dedicated to teaching in the Environmental Sciences area since 2007, has been an Editor of the journal Agriculture(MDPI) and invited editor to several special issues, and also a regular reviewer to various international journals. She has also served as member of the scientific committees for several international conferences, has been involved in organizing scientific seminars, workshops, and outreach activities for the wider public and has been involved in student supervision, for Master’s and PhD theses. She has also mentored students from various levels, including MSc, BSc, graduate and undergraduate students. Overall she has authored 28 papers, 2 book chapters (h-index of 21 and over 1790 citations) and 50 presentations at conferences. Ana also participated actively in the EC thematic networks, furthering the international environment of her research. Ana has thus solid and broad knowledge and has been actively engaged with stakeholders in the areas of environment and sustainability.
