About Ana Sirviente

Dr. Sirviente is the Chief Technology Officer at Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS), a nonprofit organization that provides end-to-end data services that support science, policy, management, and industry in the Great Lakes region. Responsible for leading adoption of new technologies and overseeing the existing observing system, she facilitates connections between the people, organizations, and technologies. Previously, she was a Technical Manager at NSF International, a product testing, inspection and certification organization with the mission of protecting and improving global human health. A part of NSF's Water/Sustainability Divisions, she oversaw the evaluation and testing of ballast water treatment technologies in order to prevent the spread of non-native aquatic species in lakes, rivers and coastal waters. Prior to NSF, she was the Program Development Director at Council of Great Lakes Industries. In that role, she helped the organization on topics that required the development of strategic and tactical pathways to fulfilling its mission including leading issue-focused working groups on topics such as climate adaptation, water quality, etc. Before CGLI, Dr. Sirviente was an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan where she taught/developed undergraduate and graduate level courses and, as a part of a team, she led a multi-million dollar research program. An author/co-author of over fifty research publications, Dr. Sirviente is fluent in English and Spanish, and has an elementary knowledge of French.
