About Ananyaa Deepak

Growing up in India, where geology wasn't part of the school curriculum, I was introduced to this subject by Hollywood. Awestruck by blockbuster movies like ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Journey to the centre of the Earth’ inspired me to pursue this subject, only to later realize how inaccurate these movies were. But they served as my initial gateway into the captivating world of Earth Sciences. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Lucknow, followed by postgraduate studies at Pondicherry University, both in India. Eager to expand my knowledge further, I completed another MRes—degree at Macquarie University, NSW, focusing on shale petrography. Currently, I am a member of the Tectonics and Earth Systems research group at the University of Adelaide. I work in the greater McArthur Basin, and my Ph.D. is intended to help strengthen the chronostratigraphic and chemostratigraphic framework across this greater McArthur Basin, with a focus on sedimentary successions of the Birrindudu Basin in Northern Territory, Australia.
