About Anders Aspegren

I have worked with hESC and hIPS cells since 2005. Work has involved purification of cardiomyocytes and hepatocytes derived from stem cells, mainly by density gradient purification. For five years I worked for Cellartis in Dundee, Scotland where I was involved in and responsible for the transfer of hESC and hIPS cell lines from feeder based to feeder free systems. The current system used at Cellectis is based on our work in Dundee, where transfered cells were banked as Master Cell Banks (MCBs), Working Cell Banks (WCBs) followed by extensive characterisation. The feeder free media that was developed in Dundee was transferred to the production unit, and developed for scale up procedures. As Production Manager for the Dundee-site I was involved in all aspects from development and manufacturing to ensure a robust QC system for the system and its derivatives (i.e. products). Currently I am responsible for the differentiation of hepatocytes in different 3D systems. This includes research to achieve more functional hepatocytes derived from human stem cells, and scale up procedures to achieve more efficient and cost reducing protocols.
