About Anders McCarthy

I am an Environmental Consultant and Project Manager currently working at HEAT International and NDE-Germany with 10+ years of experience in Earth Sciences. My interests lie in innovative decarbonization strategies in the energy sector, from transport to buildings and heavy industries. Until 2022, I was a Senior scientist (geologist, geochemist) targeting the evolution of the Earth's crust. For most of my career, my interests lay in the formation of ocean floor and mountain ranges worldwide for which I was awarded the Paul Niggli Medal in 2020. Many rocks from such locations (basalts, peridotites) offer the most compelling locations to store CO2 permanently whilst potentially producing sustainable H2 (Orange Hydrogen). In 2022, leaving behind international ocean drilling expeditions and high-resolution chemical analysis, I changed careers in the hopes of using my decision-making- and analytical skills, dynamism, and multilingual communication capabilities (English, Swedish, French, German, Danish) to help drive the world towards a sustainable net-zero future.
