About Andra Oproiu

My experiences at the programs outlined below have been instrumental in developing key teaching methodologies with students in group and individual settings. In each program, I have striven to develop well-rounded students who would excel academically, at school, and socially, in their communities. It is my conviction that an opportunity to an education will serve as a catalyst for the improvement of current and future community needs. My major in Psychology, earned at the University of Toronto, provided me with excellent verbal, written, presentation, and analytical skills. Courses such as "Teaching Students with Exceptional Needs"​ and "Social and Personality Development"​ have enabled me to further increase my knowledge of the social development of students and to form a holistic teaching philosophy that aims to increase confidence in their own skills. Self confidence will lead to increased motivation for academic success, to improved social skills, and to a positive outlook on life. I am certified to teach all core subject areas at the primary/junior level and Social Studies at the senior level. I take an integrative approach to delivering the Ministry Curriculum by incorporating visual-art tasks into regular English and Math assignments and projects. In this way, students are better able to make connections between disciplines, and ultimately between what they learn at school and their every-day experiences. I also completed the TESL Certificate from Seneca College, which has enabled me to gain a deeper appreciation of the complexities of learning a second language and the various obstacles second language learners have to overcome in order to express themselves in another language. My dedication to professional development is well reflected in the words of Michelangelo:"I am still learning." I believe teaching is a two-way street: I am as willing to learn from students as they are from me.
