About Andra Oproiu

I believe education serves as a catalyst for the improvement of current and future community needs. My experiences have been instrumental in developing key teaching methodologies with students in group and individual settings. In each program, I developed well-rounded students who would excel academically, at school, and socially, in their communities- Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto, Canada- Certified by Queen's University, Canada to teach core subject areas at the primary/junior level and Social Studies at the senior level- Earned the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate from Seneca College, Canada in order to gain a deeper appreciation of the various obstacles second language learners have to overcome when expressing themselves in a new language- Use an integrative approach to delivering the Ministry Curriculum by incorporating visual-art tasks into English and Math projects so that students can make connections between school work and every-day experiences. I have a strong commitment to professional development which is reflected in courses such as "Teaching Students with Exceptional Needs".​ Professional development gives me the chance to continue learning about the social development of students and to form a holistic teaching philosophy that grows student self confidence. Self confidence is foundational for-increased motivation for academic success -improved social skills, and -a positive outlook on life. My dedication to the field of education is well reflected in the words of Michelangelo:"I am still learning." I believe teaching is a two-way street: I am as willing to learn from students as they are from me.
