Background

About Andre Attard

After graduating from the University of Malta with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, I started my professional career working at Baxter as an R&D Engineer. There I was exposed to the industrial world of biomedical engineering,g which entailed the sustaining of medical delivery devices used in hospitals worldwide daily. This experience led me to follow a full-time MSc in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, which I followed-up with a PhD in biomedical engineering focused on investigating knee kinematics pre- and post-operatively using state-of-the-art 4-dimensional CT scanning imaging techniques. A bespoke GUI based software was developed in MATLAB allowing for accurate calculation of 4D internal mechanics of the articulating knee.Following my doctoral studies, I worked as a Senior R&D Engineer at Baxter International Inc. before moving to the newly established Applied Research and Innovation Centre at MCAST, Malta's leading VPET institution. At MCAST, as a Senior Research Officer, I am responsible for driving research within the Institute of Engineering and Transport (IET). Apart from supporting institute led research, I provide post-award support and guidance to ongoing externally funded projects, while also supporting the expansion of MCAST's research projects portfolio through pre-award guidance to IET researchers.
