About Andrea Carson
I am a professor of political communication at La Trobe University in the department of media, politics and philosophy. Simply put, I research media and politics. I bring theory and practical knowledge to my research projects having worked as a journalist in print (the Age), radio ABC Melbourne) and television (ABC 7.30) over 15 years. I have also worked as a political communication specialist (AWU). My research examines politics through a media lens. I use quantitative and qualitative methods to examine hugh quality information (evidence based journalism i.e. investigative journalism) and low quality information (mis and disinformation). And, I study political communication during election campaigns. I am particularly focused on women’s participation in elected politics with a 4-year ARC linkage in partnership with colleagues and the Victorian Local Governance Association. In undertaking my research, I collaborate with think tanks, policy makers politicians, fellow academics, digital media technology companies, media regulators and sector leaders on these important issues.
