As a Forensic Mental Health Social Worker in Ireland’s first Low-Support Forensic Mental Health Unit, I work with individuals who have a history of offending linked to significant mental health difficulties and are transitioning from secure settings (such as high or medium support units) into a more independent environment. As a Forensic Mental Health Social Worker in Ireland’s first Low-Support Forensic Mental Health Unit, I support individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system and have complex mental health needs—many of whom have been found not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI) or are considered unfit to plead under Irish mental health and criminal law. My work is vital in reducing reoffending, supporting recovery from serious mental illness, and promoting human rights in a forensic context. I am proud to be a part of a trailblazing team in Ireland, offering hope and rehabilitation where others might see only risk or danger.
