Background

About Andrea Grainger

My career has been devoted to developing technical and process-oriented educational materials, including full-length books, in government, corporate, and academic settings. I have also been responsible for supporting related governance tasks, such as proposals and board motions. My background has given me substantial exposure to a variety of tools, templates, standards, and style guides. I have been privileged to work across industries and geographies. At the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), I launched and managed a cross-departmental accessibility initiative (ranging from 10-15 members over 4 years) to increase awareness and promote documentation best practices to better support students with disabilities. This initiative won a SAIT Star Award and also contributed to a successful submission for a City of Calgary accessibility award. I've also had opportunities to provide mentorship and demonstrate leadership in my prior roles, including onboarding new contractors at SAIT, working as a book publication manager at an academic consulting firm, and acting as a team lead for the technical writers on an IBM consulting engagement. Although I contribute to projects across all SAIT's schools, my current focus is supporting new certificate and diploma programs in the School of Health and Public Safety.
