Background

About Andrea Sobrado

I work in the field of social services, specifically in child welfare practice and system improvement. I coach leaders and jurisdictions as they implement organizational change, including attention to culture, climate, leadership, and the selection of (and use of) evidence based practices. I believe in listening to the voices of children, families, and communities who can best inform where and how improvements must be made, and can partner with agencies to monitor and adapt those strategies in accordance with data and feedback. These input and feedback cycles are critical to sustaining intentional change. They are also the most challenging aspect of collaborative planning and action. I have held the position of Child Welfare Director for Fresno County, and together with my colleagues, led the county through many important and innovative changes, including an Institutional Analsysis, which helped us understand-and begin to counteract-our agency's role in perpetuating outcome disparities for children of color. I then coached the IA process in two subsequent jurisdictions and served as a technical assistant for a national non-profit organization engaged in the same work.
