About Andrea Steyl

I am an Illustrator and Graphic Designer from Tamboerskloof, currently working as a Lecturer at SAE Institute, Cape Town. I did an Honours in Illustration at Stellenbosch University in 2023 whilst creating background illustrations for children's books by doing freelance illustration work and I graduated with a BA in Visual Arts: Visual Communication Design at Stellenbosch University in 2022. I am passionate about illustration, art, design, picture books, research, and creating. I pride myself in learning as many skills and crafts as possible and love sharing that knowledge with others and spreading the joy of creating. Working alongside other people is a joy for me, learning their stories and finding ways to problem-solve and create something amazing. I enjoy discussing the hierarchy in the art world and how to reframe that narrative and I would love to use the skills and knowledge I've collected throughout my life to help guide the younger wave of artists and creators entering the world. I am well-versed in multiple arts and crafts mediums and I am always open to learning more skills and educating myself. I have acquired skills in picture book illustration, scientific illustration, bookbinding, motion graphics, graphic design, and typography, as well as digital illustration, to name a few. I enjoy taking a leadership position when needed and helping others.
