About Andreas Bernecker

Welcome! I am an economist wandering between worlds. My worlds are: • ACADEMIA: I am a professor of economics at FH Aachen. I focus on global economics and trends, including deriving strategic implications for governments and companies. I got my own training in economics at the Universities of Mannheim, California (Berkeley), and Copenhagen. My PhD was in empirical political economics (using data to understand why politicians never do what economists suggest). • BUSINESS: I also offer services around strategy and trends to companies, including keynotes, consulting, or workshop facilitation. For example, I am still an external advisor to McKinsey & Company where I used to work as a senior engagement manager and strategy consultant for several years. I bring back these practical experiences to my students in lecture hall every day. • POLITICS: I try to actively contribute to the public debate, including on Germany’s future as a business location and its government performance. Speaker engagements and LinkedIn are my preferred channels for this. I got own hands-on policy experience, for example, from being a visiting consultant to the ECB, and working in/for ministries/administrations.
