About Andreas Gehring

Andreas is an Austrian and European Patent and Trademark attorney. He earned a Masters degree in electrical and communication engineering and a doctorate in Microelectronics from Vienna University of Technology. He further received a Masters degree in Business Administration from Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, and a Diploma on European Patent Litigation from CEIPI at the University of Strasbourg. For several years, he worked in semiconductor technology development at Advanced Micro Devices in Dresden, Germany and at the IBM Hudson Valley Campus in East Fishkill, NY. He is a Senior Member of the and named as inventor in more than 15 patents on CMOS manufacturing technologies, particularly regarding Silicon-on-Insulator MOSFETs. Andreas joined Puchberger & Partner in 2009, became European patent attorney in 2013, Austrian patent and trademark attorney in 2014, and was named Partner in 2015. Next to prosecution of Austrian and European patent applications in the field of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Microelectronics, Andreas is active in contentious proceedings such as patent oppositions and cancellations. He is a registered representative at the Unified Patent Court and regularly drafts expert opinions on patent validity and infringement to support patent infringement proceedings at the Austrian and German courts as well as at the UPC. He also acts as lay judge at the Commercial Court Vienna. Andreas is further active in trademark appeal cases and contentious proceedings regarding Austrian, European and International trademarks. He regularly represents domestic and international clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings at the Austrian Patent Office and the EUIPO. He is also a lecturer at the University of Strasbourg for European Patent Law (CEIPI), at the New Design University in St. Pölten, Austria and regularly holds courses on trademark law for patent attorney candidates. He co-authored a regularly cited textbook on the proceedings at the Austrian Patent Office and contributed major parts to a textbook on Austrian patent law. Andreas is a member of INTA, AIPPI, EPI and other professional IP associations.
