About Andreas Gevaert

Prof. dr. Gevaert is a cardiologist (senior staf member) at Antwerp University Hospital and researcher (assistant professor) at the GENCOR department, University of Antwerp. He has a special interest in heart failure, cardiac imaging, and exercise physiology. Prof. dr. Gevaert graduated as M.D. in 2011 (University of Antwerp), and obtained his Ph.D. in 2019 (University of Antwerp). He worked as clinical and research fellow at the University Medical Centre Groningen in 2020-2021, further specializing in heart failure and cardiac imaging. He is currently working at the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) Heart Failure clinic, running dedicated programs for advanced heart failure/left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and device therapy, and participating in the heart transplant program; as well as the Echocardiography lab, running a dedicated program for combined cardiopulmonary exercise test and echocardiography (CPETecho). Prof. dr. Gevaert has published >40 Pubmed-cited articles in the field of cardiology and heart failure. His research focuses on the effects of exercise in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). He is promotor of several doctoral and master theses, and has teaching appointments at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is active in the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) as member of several committees and subgroups.
