About Andreas Kaup

In the meantime I have acquired a lot of knowledge from different parts of civil engineering. Over the years, my focus has shifted from structural engineering, to structural dynamics, to the topic of smart buildings and the energy-efficient and IT-secure service of buildings. Asking myself.After finilazing my Ph.D, how can I help dealing with the most important topic of our time - the climate crisis.Which areas will become more and more important in civil engineering? My motivation and answer: More green buildings, by using smart technologies and considering the IT security. Smart buildings are an important and correct approach to help solving the climate and energy crisis in highly developed Conutries. Around a third of the final energy demand in Germany is allocated to buildings. With Smart Technologies, the energy efficiency, but also the efficiency of the Usage can be significantly improved. However, the more intelligent a building is, the more important IT security becomes. An exciting fusion of IT and civil engineering. Previously, I was a research assistantat the Chair of Structural Analysis and Dynamics (Constructive Engineering) at RWTH Aachen University and finalized my dissertation with the topic: “Constitutive Modeling of Superelasic Shape Memory Alloy Damping Considering Dynamic Effects”. Particularly at this time, were the research stays at the Tsinghua University of Beijing, China.
