About Andreas Starr

Dance is art. The dancer is an artist – and an athlete. For almost a decade I danced in the companies of the theatres Nordausen, Kassel and Oldenburg. This allowed me to work with choreographers like: Henning Paar, Ana Mondini, Gonzalo Galguera, Martin Stiefermann, Roni Haver & Guy Weizmann, Felix Ruckert, José Biondi, Tamás Juronics, Massimo Gerardi & Michael Langeneckert. Feelance work brought me to Finland, UK, Belgium, Austria, Slovakia and Switzerland where I also worked as the artistic assistant and ballet master for Marco Santi at Theatre St. Gallen. With degrees in dance teaching (certified dance teacher) and dance science (M.Sc.) I pursue my passion for education and training dancers. I've been teaching in different institutions such as State Theatre at Gaertnerplatz/ Munich, Theatre Muenster, Hessisches Staatsballett, Theatre Koblenz, Theatre Osnabrueck, tanzhaus nrw, State Theatre Oldenburg but also in vocational education such as SOZO-vim or Palucca University for Dance Dresden. As a research associate at Palucca I worked in a research project for two years (funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF). Now I am the deputy head of the Institute of Dance Arts at Anton Bruckner University, Linz. I believe in development, education and scientific discussion. That is why I'm glad to be connected to the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) and serve at the advisory panel at tamed e.V.(German Association for Dance Medicine ). I have presented and led workshops at several tamed events and the IADMS 24th annual meeting. I very much enjoy lecturing on dance science subjects e.g. for the certificate in dance medicine (ZAM, tamed), the advanced vocational training of the faculty of Palucca University of Dance Dresden or at SOZO-vim. It is my desire to integrate and apply science into dance practice in order to enhance dancers performance and reduce their risks for injury.
