About Andrei Barbu

I'm a software engineer with 5 years of experience building web apps, internal tools, and AI-driven products, mostly in Python (Django, FastAPI, Azure Functions), TypeScript, and React. I care a lot about writing clean, maintainable code and delivering features that actually make people's lives easier. I spent 4 years at TravelPerk in Barcelona, where I worked on a range of different products from COVID travel restriction APIs to a global alerting system, and a travel and spend reporting product. For the latter, I also built an AI-powered reporting chatbot to help users generate reports more easily. Since moving back to Bucharest, I’ve been consulting for Astellas Pharma, where I’ve focused on optimizations of existing systems, as well as building and delivering retrieval source integrations (MS Graph API, ServiceNow) for an internal AI chatbot. These experiences have given me a strong foundation in delivering LLM applications in production environments. I've worked across data integration, performance optimization, and RAG workflows, using tools like LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, and pgvector to build and scale real-world chatbot solutions. Outside of work, I recently launched an independently developed mobile budgeting app built with React Native and Expo. It’s designed to help people manage and plan their money around fixed expenses. I released the first version to the App Store in May 2025 and plan to expand it with a Pro plan soon. I’m always interested in opportunities to grow, build meaningful software, and work with smart, kind people.
