About Andrej Zacharenkov

I'm currently a Principal Software Developer at RiskAware, where I get a chance to work on different projects that involve environmental modeling, data analysis and recently - cyber security. Most work follows agile methodologies and allows the developers learn new technologies. During my work here I have been exposed to some new languages such as C++ and C#(however my main programming language is Java) and new technologies such as D3, Webpack, React, OrientDB.As an Analyst Programmer for Sword Apak, I developed code for their financial software, worked with Spring, Eclipse, Java, Database (Oracle, Hibernate), Tomcat, and occasionally UI side of it - xHTML, CSS, richFaces/Tomahawk/ writing new bits of components as well. Before starting my job at RiskAware in late 2015, I have started learning how to develop Android apps, which is still something I try to study in my spare time. I've released my first simple coin collecting app 'My British Coins' in October 2015, which by this date (01/2018) is a decent success with over active users and over total downloads.I have finished a degree in MSc Computer Science (Conversion) at Bristol University in 2013, with a thesis in "Beautiful Coding of Information using Cellular Automata", which involved research, implementation, and programming (Java). Prior to this course, I have had minimal programming experience but I found a passion for it and decided to continue in this field.As a mathematics with economics student, I have developed an ability to approach problems in an analytical way in order to formulate theories and apply them to solve problems. I have gained clearer and more logical thinking, advanced numeracy skills and abilities to analyze and interpret data.For 4 years I have taken part in European Socrates Comenius project EFFECT that focused on peer tutoring (part of Lifelong Learning Programme 2007–2013). I have taken part in an international meeting of this project in Norway and Lithuania.
