Background

About Andres Silva

Applied Economics Researcher in the Food-Health and Food-Environment Areas. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Chile, I completed a Masters at Texas A&M University in 2007, and a Doctorate at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom in 2012. My degrees are in agricultural economics and applied economics. My area of interest is consumer behavior with regard to food decisions and their consequences on health and the environment. I have conducted research to make the role of produce markets in urban settings visible, and I was the coordinator of the tour of the Asociación de Ferias Libres de Chile to France. I am the principal investigator in a project that analyzes fruit and vegetable consumption among college students, funded by the Universidad Central de Chile (CIP2019017, 2019-21). I am also the principal investigator in a project whose objective is to analyze and propose measures to prevent household food waste in Santiago/Chile, funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (FONDECYT de Iniciación 2020-23). I have worked with the National Health Survey, the Family Budget Survey, the Kantar Worldpanel in Chile, and other surveys conducted in Mexico, the United States, the United Kingdom and France. I am curious to new perspectives that contribute to help people make healthier choices while they minimize the negative environmental consequences. I like to work in multidisciplinary teams and partnerships with public and private agencies.
