She is the VP of Operations at Synex Medical. Synex is committed to making healthcare affordable, saving lives, and creating high-paying jobs in Canada by developing a wearable device that can monitor multiple metabolites for predictive health. She is a 36-year-old Brazilian-Canadian, proficient in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. She came to Canada at the age of 18 as an international student. By her 25th birthday, Andressa had earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Specialization in Health Sciences and her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, both from Trent University (Peterborough, ON). During her academic career, Dr. Lacerda demonstrated her versatility and range, while paving the way for innovation and job creation. Her research included the use of stem cells from the umbilical cord as a treatment for liver failure, the use of nanoparticles as a cancer treatment (patent application US biological treatments for wastewater, a neuromuscular disorder with a prevalence of people (patent application US 62/065,331) and intracellular protein trafficking. Her impressive accomplishments include six publications and two patents in only four years. Dr. Lacerda's exceptional leadership and strategic acumen have yielded strong results, including securing over $100M in government and private funding to support clean tech and biotechnology startups in Canada. Despite the fact that most startups fail after two years, Dr. Lacerda’s support has led to the growth and expansion of groundbreaking research for seven startups. She is passionate about supporting young entrepreneurs, especially female founders, by sharing what she learned as a trailblazer in the startup sector. She is a mom who lives in the GTA with her husband. She is determined to be an example to her daughter of how determination and pushing boundaries can set you on the path to success.
