Background
About Andrew Berry
CV: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OOJEywsnzJofC2t65puO4eZNFmL7XFG-ka1SOr2w7mE/edit?usp=sharing I am an experienced genome annotator and analyst having worked on a range of projects; most recently those of Human, Mouse and Rat, as part of the Human and Vertebrate Annotation team (HAVANA) at the EBI in Cambridge. This work has led to a deep understanding of the challenges of annotating the complexity of Human genes. I am also interested in the regulation of gene expression in humans, particularly via the Nonsense-Mediated Decay pathway and how this affects development. I am also interested in Clinical genomics in a wider context, especially the use of antisense oligonucleotides as therapeutics. I have really enjoyed being part of the team that provides gene annotation for the human genome, which supports fundamental research in medicine and bioscience. More recently I have been improving skills in coding in Python, R and Perl for analysis of annotation data to pursue research in Nonsense-Mediated Decay. During this time, I have also been broadening my experience of training and sharing skills with colleagues, including online training. Recently, I have been collaborating with a software developer to assist in the design and project management of a long-read transcriptomic pipeline for Human genomes. This has involved manual curation of the metadata for public long-read transcriptomic to provide training and validation data, and conceptual assessment of AI approaches to solving problems around missing metadata. I enjoy the creativity and problem-solving around pursuing my own research, but also enjoy working within a team. I am currently seeking a full-time position where I can further develop my research, data analysis and bioinformatic skills in genomics. I am located in West Sussex and am looking for a role in the Brighton, London, Cambridge, West Sussex and Surrey areas.
