About Andrew Binger

I’m the type of guy that would rather walk someone to their destination rather than just give them directions. Now I’ll admit this is partly because I’m terrible at giving directions. It’s also because I know they’ll definitely get there if I take them. This philosophy informs everything I do. As a writing tutor I’ve strengthened students’ reading, writing and critical thinking skills and, perhaps most important, helped build their confidence. In the classroom I’ve brought unparalleled energy and innovation to engage students and force them to stretch themselves. As a mentor I’ve forged meaningful, life-long bonds with students. My passion is helping students find the most powerful tool at their disposal; their voice. This daunting journey has many peaks and valleys. As an educator I hope to walk with students on their journeys rather than just giving them directions and hoping for the best. As an actor I push myself to find the truth behind the characters and text. I push myself to feel. That’s the magical moment when the theatre becomes real for me and for the audience. It’s also the point when it becomes art. My philosophy on playwriting is pretty simple. There are far too many great stories out there not being told; far too many voices not being heard. I’ve learned that if I want to hear these stories and voices I’ve got to do my part. Another moment of magic is mixing these two passions, theatre arts and education. Exposing a young person to theatre can truly be life changing. It’s the moment that parts of their inner world, parts that have long remained dormant, awaken. They bring new energy and fervor to all aspects of their life. I want to bring more theatre to our schools, especially our underserved schools. I love meeting new people!
