About Andrew Bluhm
Being involved in academic research for 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work with BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens including SARS-CoV-2. The variety of organisms requires multiple techniques to investigate pathogenesis including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, transposon library construction, flow cytometry, florescent microscopy, ELISA, cell/tissue culture, plaque assays, EC50s, and FPA in addition to standard molecular biology practices. While some protocols are widely used, there is also a need to develop novel protocols to investigate unique interactions and bring in collaborators from other fields. I leverage those relationships and expertise for further inquiry and understanding. After finishing grad school, I sought to turn a hobby into a profession and worked at a brewery as the packaging lead to be in charge of operating and maintain the canning line and its crew. I also grew to brew batches of beer up to 80 BB, lead tours, and enrich a thriving small business community. Curious, empathetic, and a hard worker, I'm eager to see what's to come.
