About Andrew Burkett

I’ve worked for 10+ years as an Aerospace Engineer while also managing SIE’s tech stack and writing and deploying applications for engineering, business intelligence and systems administration. As an aerospace engineer, I have extensive experience in creating and analyzing Finite Element Models, including models of all varieties for statics, non-linear statics, dynamics, aerodynamics, stability, flutter and whirl flutter. I have also used direct matrix manipulation for problems to solve issues not directly solvable with the typical elements used for analysis. I both develop test plans and analyze the test results to validate models (both by Ground Vibration Testing and Flight Test). Extensive experience analyzing aircraft to meet FAR Part 25 for loads and stress. I have long had an interest in writing software to automate work, optimize existing code and enable new capabilities. I am proficient at writing code with both Python and Rust. I use Python extensively for data analysis with libraries like numpy and pandas, and as a general purpose language for automating tasks. I use Rust both for writing various applications and optimizing my Python code. In addition to Python and Rust, I have also written libraries and applications in C, C++, Go and Javascript. I’ve implemented a prototype embedded application for the ESP8266 for wireless data acquisition communicated to an Android app. I have been using git to store and maintain the code for the last 10 years and more recently implemented CI/CD pipelines in both Azure DevOps and GitHub. In addition to writing software, I manage the whole tech stack for SIE, and have performed a wide range of tasks including: deploying servers, migrating applications to VM’s initially and then eventually moving to Docker, deploying applications to AWS, deploying backup and monitoring solutions, configuring and managing the network, handled company wide migration to O365 and managed the rapid transition to a predominantly remote workforce brought on by the pandemic. I have also been involved in automating and improving business processes pertaining to work management, accounting workflows and business intelligence.
