About Andrew Cory
Over the last thirty years, I have worked professionally in Australia and Singapore as an actor, movement director, and arts administrator. I've worked with several independent and professional companies in Australia including The Queensland Ballet, Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite Theatre Company, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Opera Queensland, Queensland Music Festival, Zen Zen Zo, and The South Australia State Theatre Company. I recieved my training at international institutions such as Ecole Philip Gaulier (London), Centre Selavy Mask School (France), Todo Performance Academy (Denmark), the School for Mime Theatre (USA), and Bont's International Clown School (Spain). Other workshops I've attended include Jos Houben (Teatre de Complicite, The Right Size), Angela De Casto (Clown), Nigel Charnock (DV8), Yves Lebreton (Corporeal Mime), Tess De Quincy (Bodyweather), Tom Greder (Clown), and Leisa Shelton (Movement). I've written and directed four clown shows in collaboration with international artists: MUD (Metro Arts - 2003) SUCKERS (Harvest Rain Independents - 2012) THE BOX (Backbone/Artslink - 2013) PARK CLEANERS (Backbone/Artslink - 2015) In 2017 I created my own theatre company called Dog Spoon to focus on clown, movement, image and text, where I wrote and directed two new independent plays: TWO GUYS IN A BOX (Brisbane Festival - 2017) A COUPLA DOGS (Brisbane Festival - 2018) Both if which recieved critical acclaim and sell out seasons. As an arts administrator I served as the Artistic Director of Backbone Youth Arts from 2009 to 2013, La Boite Theatre as the Engagement Producer in 2016, and Intermin Manager for QLD Music Festival Youth Program in 2017. During my time at Backbone Youth Arts I oversaw and produced the annual 2high Festival from 2007 to 2009. For the past 5-years I've been the Movment & Embodument Coach for the Acting and Musical Theatre degrees at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. I've worked alongside Program Directors Paul Sabey & Jacquie Sommerville in delivering their tertiary programs. Currently, I'm building a new hub of movement & embodiment training in Brisbane called 'Jesture.'
