Background
About Andrew Dampier
I study queer and trans* literature from modernism to the present, with a particular focus on the gothic and its ecological afterlives. My work explores how writers use themes of temporality, embodiment, and haunting to ask what it means to live queerly in worlds shaped by loss, stigma, and ecological crisis.I am especially interested in how the gothic provides a language for queer haunting—whether in the form of ghosts, uncanny bodies, or unsettling landscapes—and how contemporary queer authors have adapted this tradition into new modes of storytelling, from romance to speculative fiction. Across these texts, I trace how queer writers build archives of memory and desire that resist linear histories and instead imagine alternative futures. At its core, my research highlights the resilience and creativity of queer expression, showing how literature continues to generate new ways of thinking about time, embodiment, and ecological belonging.I am an experienced English instructor with a strong background in teaching both freshman composition and introductory literature survey courses. I emphasize critical engagement, interdisciplinary thinking, and the role of literature in shaping cultural discourse across various media. Passionate about archival research, genre theory, and the evolving relationship between text, context, and interpretation.
