About Andrew Fleming

Insight is addictive. I vividly remember the warm June evening in Boston when I first got hooked on data analytics. I was living in the city for the summer, working as a linguistics research assistant by day and a line cook by night (a former grill cook, I make an excellent hamburger). Working with Dr. Daniel Erker at Boston University, I had been manually reviewing Spanish interview data for certain linguistic features. After a month or so of this work, Dr. Erker taught me how to carry out my first linear regression on the data that I had compiled. Suddenly, this language arts lover was hooked on the infinite possibilities of applied statistics. Following undergrad, I pursued my passion for language science by getting a master's degree in linguistics, a discipline focused on the quantitative understanding of human behavior. While I had originally planned to pursue a career in academia, I found myself drawn to the practical applications of analytics. I've since had the amazing experience of working in the language-learning industry, the food bank world, and my home city's library system.
