About Andrew Freeman

I am privileged to be a television reporter and MMJ in the great Austin, TX for CBS Austin. I develop, shoot, edit and write all my own stories, although occasionally I do work with a photographer on stories and live shots. I manage my time wisely and always make my often tight deadlines. I regularly do multiple live shots a week, often during breaking news. Social media is also a big part of my job. I post my stories to Facebook and Twitter daily, and provide regular updates, especially during breaking news. I am a University of North Texas's Mayborn School of Journalism graduate, with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and minors in both Political Science and Communications. Just before my senior year, I was also privileged to intern with CBS 11 News out of Dallas. During the 8-week program, I spent a week within each division of the newsroom- the assignment desk, the web team, producing, production, editing and a mock anchor read- and two weeks shadowing reporters. I absolutely love what I do. It allows me to feed my curiosity about the community and world. I enjoy covering a wide range of stories including crime, community events, and local disasters. But politics is where my passion within journalism lies. I love that journalism is the only industry protected by the Constitution, and stands as a protector of the public. Being a watch dog and keeping both the government and the community accountable is something that is both exciting and fulfilling.
