About Andrew Hooper

Throughout my work experience thus far, I have worked on a variety of projects, mainly railway and civils, where I learned a lot of the key skills required for this industry. I have worked on a wide variety of projects for a range of different clients including SPL, Siemens, AMCO, Balfour Beatty and Babcock. I have developed my knowledge and skills in a range of competencies required for this field of work. These include: • Contract Practice: Understanding of different roles in a construction contract, understanding of procedure / processes around handling variations, snagging lists, EOT’s and Contract Completion. • Procurement & Tendering: Materials Take-Off, Estimation, Correspondence with Sub-Contractors, scaling from drawings, carrying out site visits. • Programming & Planning: working to deadlines, estimation of duration of projects, planning work around possession times on the railway, creation of construction programmes, reconfiguration of programme to accommodate variations, monitoring of the programme to show progress. • Construction Technology and Environmental Services: Understanding of construction methods / practices and the Labour/Plant/Materials required, use of sketch software to illustrate safe work procedure and to outline product specifications to suppliers, use of technology to conduct desk studies of work sites e.g. Routeview, historical maps, understanding & appreciation of environmental considerations / risks when planning and carrying out works such as habitats, additional surveys required, protected species etc. • Project Administration: Use of project administration software e.g. Viewpoint for Projects, Creation of Red-Line drawings, collation of As-Built documents, creating Completion Reports. • Risk Management and H&S: Creating Task Briefs / Method Statements, Work Package Plans, carrying out Risk Assessments, understanding of railway safety both on & off track.
