About Andrew Karl

I have been practicing civil engineering since June 2010 and have been a licensed Professional Engineer since July 2016. Throughout my career I have amassed a large swath of experience. I have been both on the private consultant side and public service side. I have worked diligently with clients when their projects were just concepts and shaken their hands when the project was complete. I have evolved from a number checker to a civil designer to a licensed engineer to project manager. I’ve learned (and thrown up my hands at!) AutoCAD, Microstation, InRoads, Civil 3D, Synchro, HydroCAD and various other software programs. And through it all, I have continuously sought out leadership opportunities.Going back to college, I was American Society of Civil Engineers Chapter President at Manhattan College and Vice President of the Intelligent Transportation Society at The University of Texas at Austin, while also captaining several intramural sports teams. My professional society involvement continued into my early career when I served as Secretary and Young Member Chair for ASCE’s Mid-Hudson Branch. Simultaneously, at my first job I was honored to be part of H.W. Lochner's Young Professionals Roundtable. This was a company-wide group of younger engineers selected from a nomination and application process to represent their region. This group was charged with identifying leading technology and practices from across the industry that could drive growth and efficiency throughout the company. We presented these ideas to the "C-suite" executives for approval and integration. In ensuing jobs I found and joined very similar groups including serving as Group Lead of the Department of Public Service Tech Team and as an office representative for VHB’s Emerging Professionals Group. These bodies allowed me to mix with a diverse cast which helped me grow, learn and understand differing thought processes to help make me a more complete engineer and person. Most recently I sought a leadership position in my town and currently serve as Chairman of the Sand Lake Planning Board.My career has afforded me a great variety of experience and challenges. I can honestly say that not a day goes by without me learning something new. For that I am truly grateful.When I’m not focused on engineering I love to get outside with my wife, our two boys and dog. Whether it’s hiking, fishing, skiing, or just generally exploring, we love to take advantage of all that upstate NY has to offer. And when we get bored of that, we get on a plane and travel!
