About Andrew Lau

I am a qualified (FIAA) actuary and data scientist with experience in actuarial valuation, personal lines pricing and data science. I have built and productionised machine learning/statistical models of all sorts including linear regression models, GLMs, GBMs, Markov chains and Neural Networks. I am proficient in following technologies: Python, R, SAS, SQL/Big Query, Linux/bash, Git, Google Cloud Platform, VertexAI, Docker/Argo/Kubernetes, DataBricks, PowerBI, Emblem and of course Microsoft Office. I am experienced in retail home and motor insurance pricing: claims cost modelling using both GLMs/GBMs, cost build up, premium commercialisation, natural perils reviews as well as portfolio monitoring and the recommendation of price changes to stakeholders. I have performed actuarial valuations on government schemes, small insurers and large insurers and am experienced in building actuarial valuation models, presenting results and producing ILVRs. I present well, having presented to CEOs, heads of other teams, GMs, partners and consulting clients. I enjoy training others and can explain technical concepts to the level required by the audience - I have run numerous team training sessions, been sent overseas to up skill offshore teams, and have tutored and guest lectured Machine Learning courses at UNSW/Macquarie Uni.
