About Andrew Legg

Andrew has been a part of Van Hulsteyns Attorneys since the beginning of his clerkship in 1995. He became an equity partner at the firm in 1998. In recent years he has been extensively involved in substantial litigation arising out of large scale corporate frauds perpetrated against Randgold and Exploration arising from the Brett Kebble saga. Between 2005 and the settlement of a multibillion Rand claim against JCI in 2010, Andrew was instructed to act against PricewaterhouseCoopers in one of South Africa’s largest auditor liability claims which was successfully resolved in 2015, and proceeded against Gold Fields Limited in an ongoing action for several billion Rand and assisted in recovering in excess of R1.4 billion on behalf of Randgold. In 2014 Andrew acted for liquidators in resisting a claim for US$188 million which a United States defendant applied to have recognised and enforced in South Africa. Andrew is currently engaged with a high profile case dealing with the rights of minority shareholders. On the financial services side, he has acted on behalf of three of the four major banks in both litigious and commercial matters and in 2014 prepared a suite of agreements to unwind a complex preference share structure with a listed company on behalf of a leading bank and has recently prepared several credit facility agreements for a range of new products secured by securities.
