About Andrew McCarthy

With more than a decade of experience working at a leading organisation in the asylum seeker and refugee support sector, I have become both an expert in this field and developed extensive knowledge and expertise transferable across the third and public sector in particular. I am motivated by making social impact and delivering lasting change. I have designed, developed and managed a wide range of services, from advice and advocacy to education and community development. I enjoy managing people and teams, 5 years of third sector leadership has given me a wide range of experience in management, from supervision, coaching and team development to performance management, recruitment and managing redundancies. Some of my proudest achievements include organising large public meetings raising awareness of campaign issues in the asylum system, leading on large multi-year partnership funding bids, overhauling services to respond to the covid19 lockdowns and involving BRR service users in shaping the organisation. In the past year, stepping up as Acting CEO of an organisation which I have known from the ground up has been a huge privilege and I look forward to using all I have learnt in a new team.
