About Andrew McKay

I'm closing in on almost 20 years of experience in all aspects of designing embedded systems, software, electronics, and packaging.I started my career as PCB designer and hardware debugger and briefly worked in a production environment testing and verifying the function of boards before shipping them to customers. An opening with the software team had me shift my focus to software development where I was responsible for maintaining a custom Linux Kernel tree for various ARM7/9 processors (Cirrus Logic and Atmel families). I was responsible for the development of custom Linux drivers to interface with custom FPGA designs, and various Ethernet switches. I have also written and maintained bare-metal code for TI's MSP430 and various ARM7 and Cortex processors. I'm extremely familiar with Open Source Software and work with the FOSS community where I can to benefit both our company's goals and the community's goals by sharing bug fixes back to the community.In the last years of my software development experience, I directly supported customers through site visits training them on all aspects of our product, providing demonstrations of proof of concepts or fully developed projects. This included gathering requirements and feedback on all aspects of our systems including software, hardware, and mechanical design.I have directly managed software teams up to 25 developers through informal, Agile, and traditional waterfall development practices. I prefer to keep just enough process to ensure that software is developed on-time and with quality without burdening the team with "process for the sake of process" tasks.Specialties: Programming, C, C++, Assembly (ARM), System Architecture, Design Reviews, PCB Layout, Hardware Debugging.
