About Andrew Mumford

Prof. Andrew Mumford is Professor of War Studies in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham. His primary area of research is the political management of warfare. He has written 4 books, including 'The West's War Against ISIS'(2021),'Counterinsurgency Wars and the Anglo-American Alliance'(2017),'Proxy Warfare'(2013), and 'The Counterinsurgency Myth'(2011). From 2020-22 he was on a part-time secondment to the UK House of Commons International Affairs Unit via a POST Academic Fellowship. Andrew gained his PhD from the University of Warwick in International Relations. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Eccles Centre for American Studies at the British Library and a Research Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Terrorism at Pennsylvania State University, and has previously taught at the Universities of Sheffield and Hull. He is the editor of a new book series 'Studies in Contemporary Warfare' from Bloomsbury and is an Executive Board member and Trustee of the British International Studies Association (BISA).
