About Andrew Redlawsk

In my past life, I was a professional musical theatre actor who worked all over the globe singing and dancing for tens of thousands of people. But when a vocal injury derailed my career, I had to figure out how to go forward when the only thing I'd ever trained to do was taken away. At first it was politics. I've been deeply passionate about social justice all my life, so I decided to pursue a Master's in Political Management from George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management. I'm a veteran of a number of rural Democratic campaigns in Iowa, Montana, and Georgia from 2017-2020, and I organized fundraisers and aid delivery for the Standing Rock protests in North Dakota in 2016. Beyond issues of social justice, as an avid outdoorsman I'm equally passionate about public lands, conservation, renewable energy, building community, and finding common ground. Those passions took me to the National Parks Conservation Association in DC, and then later, to my current job at KAYA. At KAYA, I get to combine all my passions to build the future of outdoor climbing guidebooks. I strongly believe that the best way to ensure public lands users practice responsible outdoor ethics is by giving them *more* information, not less. Most of the damage that individuals do to our natural ecosystems is a product of ignorance, not malice. And the answer to protecting wild places and crags is not gate keeping, but education. At KAYA I get to make climbing accessible to everyone, while also ensuring these places remain wild and cared for into the future.
