About Andrew Rowan

Andrew heads the Structures Department at HHO and is an ECSA-registered professional engineer. He has a Masters Degree obtained from UCT, where the focus of his postgraduate research was the repair and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures. Since joining HHO fulltime in 2005, Andrew has worked on several high profile bridge projects throughout the country and continent, for both public and private sector clients. He is a SANRAL-accredited Senior Bridge Inspector, and specialises in both the design of new bridges, and the refurbishment and repair of existing structures. Aside from his focus on bridges, he has worked on large building projects, renewable energy developments, water-retaining structures, and labour intensive programmes. Andrew serves as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at UCT, and enjoys giving back to the engineering community wherever possible, by, for example, judging the SAICE Western Cape Bridge Building competition, and presenting at international conferences. Andrew appreciates that he has benefited from studying and working under some of South Africa’s engineering royalty, and considers it his duty to continue the work of nation-building through quality engineering. Andrew is passionate about providing solutions for clients that are optimised, rational, constructible and durable.
