About Andrew Sarpolis

Andrew Sarpolis is campaign management, community organizing, and movement building professional. Most recently, he served as the Michigan Field Manager at the Sierra Club. He is also a campaign and event planner, co-founder of Turn Oakland County Green, and was a lead organizer and strategist on the Beyond Coal Campaign. For over a decade, he has built, managed, strategized, fundraised to support, and implemented volunteer-led campaigns and events aimed at creating positive change in communities. In 2023, he was awarded both the Environmental Defense Action Fund's 'Advocacy Leader on Climate' and the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights' Thomas Zerafa Peace Activist Award' for his work. In 2024, he was named a Crain's Detroit Notable Leader in Sustainability for his pioneering work in building successful campaigns for clean energy.Through his work and as a volunteer, Andrew has raised over a hundred thousand dollars for candidates and community causes. He served as a coalition coordinator for Turn Oakland County Green, bringing together ten diverse, nationally-recognized organizations to win the adoption of a climate action plan. He is a frequent public speaker, having presented at universities, conferences, community organizations, and other venues on topics relating to environmental policies and organizing.Andrew has managed large events, including several events that mobilized roughly a thousand people, such as the Detroit March for Justice in 2015 and the Earth Day Climate Fest in 2022 and 2023. These events used people power successfully to achieve strategic campaign objectives such as the passage of legislation, building bridges with community partners, or bringing media attention to the issue. One campaign (Beyond Coal) has been featured as part of the the Newsweek Magazine cover story in 2016.
