About Andrew Sauer

A Master of Public Health, I am used to working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative way to improve people’s health. My academic experience has introduced me to concepts around global health policy, health data analytics, and leadership skills. I have further developed these skills whilst working as a Healthcare Analyst with Ripple Effect. Contracted to assist the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Ripple Effect provides analytical support to ongoing policy updates. As a Healthcare Analyst, I have been able to apply my knowledge of policy to analyze and synthesize public response to CMS policy. I have contributed to the policy creation and maintenance process by categorizing, parsing, and coding stakeholder response and other policy related datasets. I have provided support on projects including the CMS Quality Payment Program and CMS Opioid Treatment Program. During my second project, I was promoted to work on the Quality Control Team, which ensures the work being done by other analysts is to the highest standard. While pursing my Master in Public Health Degree, I worked with The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, where I co-designed a health promotion and communication campaign around teenage vaping. I also took opportunities to expand on my research skills through conducting systematic reviews on emerging policies at local, federal, and state levels This cumulated in presenting the findings of qualitative research, taken through focus groups, to County Council, The County Health Officer, and law enforcement to influence the creation of Montgomery County Bills 29-19, 31-19, 32-19, and Zoning Amendment 19-06. It was during this time that I became more aware of health inequalities and health literacy and I developed an understanding of how to adapt my communication depending on the target audience. Adapting my communication became something I was aware of during my Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and time as a Fitness Team Manager at a gym, since there are many areas of biomechanics that need translating to lay-terminology to best support my clients. This ultimately resulted in exceeding my revenue goal in 2019 following implementing a digitized client progress tracker.
