About Andrew Scott

I am now retired. I was a technical leader in the areas of lasers and optics research • My past experience has covered basic physics and applied research. The physics included ‘nonlinear optical phase conjugation (OPC)’ or ‘wavefront reversal’, studies of the physics of laser generated plasmas and the effects they produce, the development of techniques for correcting for the effects of atmospheric turbulence, and methods for combining beams from multiple fibre lasers. • In I started a program on scaling up the power and performance of fibre laser bundles, and this work has evolved into a key technology for the UK MOD’s high energy laser programme. • • I have published approximately 80 technical papers in academic journals and conference proceedings. • I have also published a book called “Behind the fireplace”, telling the story of my mother’s role in the Dutch Resistance and the sheltering of Jewish refugees during the Second World War. The book has sold about copies, mostly in the US, and is available from Amazon.
