About Andrew Selee

Andrew Selee is the President of the Migration Policy Institute. He is also an Andrew Carnegie Fellow and the author of a Vanishing Frontiers: The Forces Driving Mexico and the United States Together ( PublicAffairs, 2018). He worked for 17 years as the Woodrow Wilson Center, where he started the Center's Mexico Institute and later served as Executive Vice President. He is the author, editor, or co-editor of several books and publications on Mexico, U.S-Mexico relations, immigration in the United States, and democracy in Latin America. His latest books are "What Should Think Tanks Do? A Strategic Guide to Policy Impact"(Stanford U Press, 2013) and "The United States and Mexico: The Politics of Partnership"(co-edited with Peter H. Smith, Lynne Rienner Publishers, 2013). Selee is a frequent commentator in the press. His op-eds have appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Dallas Morning News, and LA Times, and he writes a regular column on US-Mexico relations in the Mexican newspaper El Universal. Selee teaches courses on migration at Georgetown University, and previously was an Adjunct Professor at both Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University. Prior to joining the Wilson Center, he worked in the US House of Representatives and on development projects in Tijuana, Mexico for five years. Selee has a PhD in Policy Studies from the University of Maryland, an MA in Latin American Studies from UCSD, and a BA, Phi Beta Kappa, from Washington University, St. Louis.
