Background
About Andrew Simpson
I'm originally from Mt. Pleasant, SC but now I live in Tega Cay, SC. I have two degrees, a BS in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston and a M.Ed. in Literacy from The Citadel. I have many certifications including Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, National Board, Literacy Coach, Literacy Teacher, and Google Educator Levels 1 and 2. I have been married to my wife Suzanne since 2005. Our son Jack was born in 2007 and our daughter Catherine was born in 2009. I began teaching in 2005 and have taught grades four, three, and one. I currently teach third grade at Gold Hill Elementary School, which is an amazing school in the Fort Mill School District. In the Fall of 2018 I began a wonderful new journey of learning. I am attending the University of South Carolina and I am working my way towards an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology. I have over 15 years of experience in teaching with technology. During my first year of teaching in 2005, I connected the classroom TV to my desktop computer to improve engagement and learning during small group instruction. Ever since then I have used interactive white boards, iPads, Chromebooks, digital games, G-Suite tools, and Google Expeditions to make learning more engaging and interactive. Since 2010 I have mentored young adults and teens in teaching pedagogy and best practices. While working for the Charleston County School District, I mentored interns from the College of Charleston in 2008/2009 and 2010/2011. I also was a mentor for an induction teacher in 2011/2012. Since moving to the Fort Mill School District in 2013, I have mentored 2 senior and 2 junior interns from Winthrop University and 2 interns from Fort Mill High School. I have excellent communication skills and a passion to learn and increase my skills. I have seen first-hand the changes and advancements in curriculum, instruction, and educational technology. I believe I have the skills needed to help pre-service and in-service teachers find authentic ways to integrate technology into their classroom.
