About Andrew Simpson

Andrew graduated from the University of Guelph Bachelor of Computing, Honors, program, where he also heavily studied Philosophy. After graduating he went worked as an IT systems specialist in Toronto where he developed strong systems infrastructure and hardware skills, especially with server environments. During this period he also developed workflow automation programs for co-workers, and in-house utilities, but wanted a role dedicated to programming and development. His interest in mobile brought him to SpeakFeel in 2010 where he's had the opportunity to work with every major platform, including iOS, Android, Win8 and BlackBerry; being challenged to learn the native SDKs for each. He has published numerous apps for each platform to each app store. Joining the small team early on has allowed for a large breadth of experience, not only in developing on the mobile platforms, but also developing web-based sytems, from front-end sites to mobile APIs and CMS platforms. He has also enjoyed helping to shape internal procedures, as well as development methodologies and best-practices. Andrew loves to learn new technologies, which helps fuel his passion for finding the best solutions while creating useful products. He has taught himself many programming languages and technologies for fun, anything from writing some quick scripts in Python to experimenting at home with GPGPU programming on his high-end video card. He also likes to stay up to date with the latest tech trends and breakthroughs from various blogs and tech news sites. He loves puzzles and games and challenges himself with programming challenges on-line, as well as playing video games and board games with friends and family, as well as mountain-biking and cottaging in the warmer months. He is very excited for the new challenges and learning that comes with being a new father in early 2015.
