About Andrew Stacey

Andrew is a petroleum geologist with experience working for federal and state government departments and science agencies. He has a PhD in petroleum geoscience from the University of Tasmania and has worked in and around the oil and gas industry for two decades. Andrew has worked in and led teams developing, implementing and managing studies into the impact of unconventional gas extraction on water resources and the environment as well as scientific research and analysis to understand petroleum potential of Australian offshore and onshore basins. Andrew is currently working in the Onshore Exploration, Development & Investment team delivering policy advice to the Australian Government in the sphere of upstream gas. I Previously, he worked on the Geological and Bioregional Assessment Program, providing technical advice to better understand the potential impacts of unconventional oil and gas on water resources and matters of environmental significance. Andrew led Geoscience Australia’s onshore hydrocarbons program for several years where he was responsible for building organisational capability in unconventional hydrocarbons. Central to this role was the provision of advice regarding exploration and development technology, prospectivity and potential resources. Andrew has a particular interest in Australia's energy transition, especially with respect to hydrogen and other low emissions liquid fuels.
